Picked up this interesting Tiki at a thrift store. It sort of looked cool and Oceanic. An interesting detail is that it has a Paul Marshall Products sticker on the bottom. My guess is that it was made as some sort of interpretive Oceanic arts for US market. Not sure if the paint is original or not. Anyone who might have more info on this would be appreciated. It's about 2 feet tall.

Also snagged a cool Trader Vic's glass on e-bay.

That Tiki (?) is totally wacky, never seen anything like it. Neither the form, nor the weird markings! Bet Bob and Leroy might have something to say 'bout it, they delt with Paul Marshall.
And that Trader Vic's glass is tres cool too, never knew it existed.

I have one just like yours. I'll snap a few pictures when I have a minute and some sunshine! Too funny I thought it was a kids carving project or something.

found this bad boy a couple weeks ago at an amvets. any idea on the brand, or what used to be inside? the spot for a label on the front seems to be long gone, and the only info on the bottom is "heritage collection", any info?

Its a Kahlua bottle that was put out in the early 90's. At least that's when I remember buying one from the liquor store. It could have been released at other times as well.

I would say they are twins for sure! Although the mouth, nipples & belly button on mine have not been painted in...

Mine appears to be a slightly darker color than yours. Looking at the grains in the picture they might be made of a different type of wood?

I found this last year in a stack of line drawings by an artist that I lost the info on. Most were of WWII planes and stuff and were dated between 1945-1947. Not sure what the sign reads above the maiden's head.

Is this what Hawaiian souveniers have come to? It says "Maui 2006" on it and the figures are playing a guitar and riding a skateboard.

Very nice find. Weird combo of goofy drawn man with a realistic woman. Somebody gonna translate that signsge?

Interesting. Maybe a political cartoon? Maybe "Carroll For Cuts" was a newspaper column? Or a campaign by someone named Carroll? That guy has a kiss on his nose, and is dancing a Maori dance....maybe he is a white politician that got the approval of the Maori community?

Anyway, here is the original to that clock tower...but I am sure you already knew it, Ron. :)

Thanks Matt, Paipo, and Bigbro...Maybe it means this guy left his wife back in the U.S. for the war and is now fishing in New Zealand? Carroll For Cuts may have been some Cut & Paste company back when they still did that.

This was found at a swap last year. Pulp art for True Magazine from the late 40s. Has kind of a carribean feel to it but the guy reminds me of something Leeteg would be doing in Tahiti. Painting is about 18"X24"

Pretty good guesses bigbro - I did a little more hunting and checked out the NZ political leaders for the years mentioned (45-47) and came up with this:

Well, that takes away the surreal aspect of the drawing. What I found fascinating about it to begin with is the three different styles, basically the grass skirt guy is very cartoony, the "bell tower" looks like something drawn by Boris Artzybasheff, and the girl is much more realistic looking. I found it to be fascinating that there were these three styles in the drawing.

With that picture of the Bell Tower, we see that the only "cartoony" aspect is still the guy, while the other two are rendered in a more realistic representation.

I wonder why she extends beyond the boarders of the picture?

I found a paperback version of this recently, and I'm wondering if anyone has any information on it or has maybe made some of the recipes. The appetizer section has some cocktails made from a traditional Hawaiian distilled spirit (but its says its ok to use rum in its place). Mai Tai and others.

Hey Tatoo, great score on the PMP tiki!

I got these thrifting a while back. The taller one looks to be made of some kind of sandstone and is just over 8" tall. The shorter one is ceramic and is only 4" tall.

Well it has been pretty dry up here in BC but here a few things I have picked up over the last month or so. Nothing too great but a few little charmers. I sure can't wait for the garage sales and swap meets to start up again!!

The cool one on the left is not marked but I believe it to be a mug by Napco. It is very cool and has a different face on each side and the details are great. The one in the middle is one of those stack able hobby mugs and on the right is a Buzz's Polynesian Restaurant coconut mug made by DAGA of Hawaii.

A pair of salt and peppers that are Japanese made little brown jugs with "Surfers Paradise" on the top. Coco Joe Ku Tiki in the center and a cool pair of salt and peppers made by Treasure Craft in the shape of a Rum XXX Barrel and XXX Jug.

On the left is one of those strange stack able little tray guys with the holder from Tildenware, a nice Rum Decanter and a cool Napkin holder from Westwood.

Okay here we have a pineapple and a coconut mug from Paradise Park in Hawaii. The coconut mug is marked on the bottom by Daga but the pineapple one is not. I am not sure of the age but I think they are probably from the eighties. The Asian mug in the center has the foil OMC label on it and stands about 8" tall. I have seen these with a Las Vegas restaurant name on them.

The two pieces on the right are little framed guys from the late 60's or 1970's and are manufactured by "Jaru" out of California. You can see these two listed in the new book 'Tiki Modern' on p.190. You will have to look pretty close but they are in the center of that catalog page. They are model#s P110 and they have the paper labels on the back. They have a wood frame and a white/beige carded backing. The actual figures are ceramic and are not carved wood as they look. Still pretty cool though. I may replace the backings as they do have some water damage and I think an old cool material will look nicer. Not bad for $1.50 each!

I got this thing a few years back and has been hanging on the wall ever since. About 12" high by 8 " wide and about 2" thick. It is old judging by the weathering. Not sure what style it is supposed to be. Obviously home made but has marks on the back as it used to be attached to some thing. Any one have any ideas as to what style this thing is supposed to look like? Polynesian, Asian, African or good old American Hobbyian, Thriftstorian? Thanks

Definitely is Papua New Guinea style. I remember seeing one just like it somewhere, but cannot pinpoint it, its not in the OA catalog. I only dug up some comparable stuff. The eyes, the bird-beak nose, the oval head shape all are signs of PNG style:

I had noticed it in your post in the Rattan thread, I really like your modernist lounge chairs, is "Calif-Asia" their actual brand name? (..and that hut/capiz shell lamp is still the best!)

Thanks Bigbro. Calif-Asia is the brand name of the chairs. I've seen quite a few pieces even up here in the North country. I believe they made a wide range of furniture. As for the carving I remember seeing it some where maybe as a "logo tiki". As for the big black mask in the rattan post picture I have two. Not strictly tiki but both came from a motel in the 60's called the Alou. Located down in Indiana. The lobby was all Polynesian as I'm told and these masks were sold at the closing auction. I found a few things today. It all started with seeing this wicker shelf on Craig's list. I went over there to pick it up and found out they were having a yard sale on this great day in New England.

This book case stands 6ft tall. Had to strap it to my roof.. LOL

From there I found a few Dynasty mugs, a Fu Man Chu and Monkey "Hear" mug.

Lastly, I found a few 18"x8" wooden plaques, but they're Philippine's.


These finds set me back $13. That's $10 for the wicker shelf, $1 for the mugs, and $1 each for the plaques

Long time lurker here. I have been hunting, collecting, and selling tiki for a couple of years now. thought it was time to share some of my stuff. Here's some from this weekend. Bought a large collection of drink coasters and napkins. Included were a mess of RARE coasters from The Aloha Room in Portland, OR. 16 large coasters, 6 small, and 1 napkin from fair to near mint. I took the napkin and best coasters and framed them.

So it's been a bit slow out there, I'm really starting to run out of places to go & stuff to find. Thought that I would share a few things from the past few weeks.

First up some matches:

This is new to me, it appears that the South Pacific had a Malden location.

Wanna be Polynesians:

Couple of swizzles, found out something else new, the Tiki Lau had 2 locations.

Inappropriately labeled Steve Crane salt & pepper.

A great gift from someone who knows I have a tiki problem.

Wreck Bar noise maker & a dragon lite mug.

And then the long drive, the snow storm that's on it's way, all faded into the background as I spotted this!


Best of all that's the price tag on his nose, hope you can read it because I got him for 50% off!

Found a few things at the flea market today.

Picked up a Kalakaua, a Duke of Hollywood and an Iolani. (I'd actually been looking at the Duke of Hollywood for almost a year. The price finally dropped down low enough today though.) There seemed to be sort of a theme going on with the voodoo mug and the voodoo game and then the Iolani shirt and the Iolani Palace mug.
