Picked up this wooden mask at a thrift today. Not sure if it’s south pacific or african. Doesn’t matter,It’s going in my tiki lounge as soon as I add some south pacific island color to it. |

I found this octopus mug that holds 26oz at a flea market this past weekend. It looks like the one in the Trader Vic's menu but doesn't have the Trader Vic's mark. I did read something here in the crypto section by Kohalacharms on octopus mugs. Also found the Hawaii Kai hula girl mug the same day. [ Edited by: tikipaka 2014-03-07 14:25 ] |

Slow week after a totally rained out weekend: Mai Kai postcard Missed Saturday due to pre Don's vending exhaustion. Then, got off to a late start Sunday because I didn't know about the time change. When I got there, the damn sun glare was so bad my tiki vision didn't work! Without my sunglasses in those harsh conditions, I gave up rather quickly. It's my midseason finding slump... |

Recent acquisitions: Hula doll from the local Goodwill. Wish she was part of someone's donated Hawaii/tiki collection, but she was there with a bunch of other dolls. Looks like she was donated as part of someone's doll collection. I had to separate her from the herd. It's not the first doll I've ever purchased for myself....just the first I didn't have to "blow up" :). (Sorry, couldn't resist.) "Pupus An Island Tradition" cookbook. Quite a bit of recipes, some Asian-influenced, some surprisingly not. "Introducing Original Polynesian Tropical Bar Recipes". Quite excited about this one. Purchased from the co-authors son in this link: howlinowl |

Scored this carving today from a workmate who found it tucked in a corner of a block of units where his girlfriends mum lives. It's obviously been outside for a while because of how weathered the front of it is but other than a little rot on the base it's in pretty good condition. Anyone have an idea of its possible age and/or origin. I've had a couple of people say Hawaiian, one said from Fiji and someone else said from Bali. Most people do seem to think it is from the 60's or 70's though, so it does make it quite old. |

Not much of a score, but finally seeing one in person, I think it's a pretty little mug. One question though: Ooga Mooga says it should be marked Orchids R-99 on the bottom, and this one isn't. Was any one making knock offs, or was there just some variation? Also, any one know what this ugly monstrosity is? Seems familiar but I'm not placing it. It's kinda sad, for all that we have this crazy eclectic culture here in Portland, two major tiki bars, and a major tiki convention, tiki is pretty thin on the ground around here. I get excited when I find anything... :/ |

That ugly monstrosity is from my space at antique alley! It's a hobbyist version of a westwood w-9. I said the same thing when I put them in the space. You should've got there a few weeks ago, I'm getting ready to move to Vegas and I put all of my doubles down there. |

You can see a green glaze version of the Westwood under tiki mug misfortunes... unfortunately for me. My blue mermaid is also a knock-off. gabbahey |

That breaks my heart to hear. I kept meaning to go back to Antiques Alley and seems I just missed an opportunity. Much sadness me! I was wondering if they weren't a hobbyist mug the way they were glazed. Also, kinda bummed to hear my blue mermaid is a knock off. Still a pretty mug though... Teadoir |

Here is a pic of two Trader Vic-Waikiki mugs I have recently found. The cruder one on the right is marked Trader Vic's Hawaii on the back and the smoother version is marked on the back Treader Vic's Waikiki Hawaii. There are no other markes on either and both are glazed brown on the inside. Could one be pre-Daga (crude) and the other one (smooth) post Daga? Any other possibilities? Mahalo for any suggestions. |

I won't claim this to be "the best way", just "a way." My friend hung his on the wall with the outrigger part down and hung all his corded tiki pendants from the boat and rig part it. It made a couple rows high of tiki danglers below it. Made the most of the little space he had and displayed a lot of hard to display stuff. Buzzy Out! |

Hey nui 'umi 'umi you may like this : Out and about today I came across 5 of these "Joe's Sneaky Tiki" tall zombie/iced tea type glasses. I bought them because my friend TikiVato's real name is Joe and so I figured he would want them. Doing a quick search on Ooga-Mooga it says they appear in Tiki Quest (which I sold so I can't look at it). Kind of surprised its in the book but cool nonetheless I also found a handful of green Sneaky Tiki/Harvey's picks (that's what is to the right) |
