It's been slim pickins here in Denver lately but today I found this bird cage. It's a little big but goes with the parrot on the lamp.

I think I may have an answer....These are also sold by a resin sculpture specialty magazine based out of Florida...I'm looking for the catalog as we speak to make sure...I believe these are sold around the $50-80 new range from the catalog...

hi guys ive been outta the picture for awhile due to purchasing and moving into a new house these are some of my latest finds locally a very cool tiki clock from tonga a glass parrot light from the 50's and a mermaid from the same era plus coco joe book ends a five inch wooden tiki and an unusual pieceof crystal blue resin poly art #23 when i first found it i thought it was a frank schirman piece canadian double sided tiki mug rare? ill be adding some pics in the home bar section of the tsunami room set up but heres a sneek peak

Found this cool 36" Witco Tiki over the weekend whilst thrifting:

It looks a little gray from weather(?) I need to research if/how I should refinish it... any suggestions are appreciated.

This was put out by the Oriental Trading company a few years back. They no longer carry the volcano bowl. I really don't know who exactly produced it, mine had a gold oval "made in china" sticker on the bottom. I would guess it was the same people who put out the "tribal mugs" that Poolside Pineapple sells (Kahunaville carries and sells them).

Next is a 6" tall hollow ceramic Moai.
In a BRIGHT orange. I think it must be an aquarium decoration from the 60's or 70's. I have a couple of shots so you can see the bottom and back. No marking anywhere on it. What do you all think?

Incense burner from Spencer Gifts. And it is missing the bottom.

I used to buy a bunch of these back when they came out in 2003-2004 and paint them with sand or Fleckstone to cover up the neon orange.
There was a green color too.

Spencer Gifts had a whole section of party tiki stuff that year. Moai Plasma lamps, tiki bar signs, bamboo bars.

While on a visit to my hometown of Detroit, I couldn't resist the urge to look for local tiki treasure. What I found this morning was what you see below. Had to make an hour drive down to Toledo and cost me a total of $40 for all four. Two fertility shields and two masks. Both were available in the Orchids of Hawaii catalog back 20 to 30 years ago. I dig them a lot, even though they are made of fiberglass. I wonder what restaurant, bar, or home rec room these were at originally?

Chub those are awesome...and something I don't ever remember seeing.

Too bad the history on these is unknown...I would of loved to have seen them decked out in someone's house for sure.

Got plenty of the usual Tiki Leilani's, so might have passed these up today but, unlike the others, these two are marked "Orchids of Hawaii R91 Japan", larger, without the face on both sides. So... did Orchids of Hawaii make the unmarked, smaller ones I have, some that say Tiki Leilani, some that don't? Help me out; I'm not stupid, I'm just ignorant!

I've further researched it and that's The Grog Tub or Scuttlebutt...

The Grog Tub - Sailors had a way of embellishing their surroundings during their long stints at sea. The scuttled butt in Vernon’s orders was a simple cask with a lid. Soon after he issued his orders, the entire British Fleet adopted his procedures for watering the rum. Eventually, the scuttled butt gave way to the Grog Tub, an oak cask banded with polished brass or copper hoops and covered with a fancy lid. On the side of the cask were the brass letters THE KING GOD BLESS HIM, the daily toast at noon when the rum or grog were issued. The grog tub was naturally the daily gathering place. While the men stood in line for their grog, rumors were exchanged so that in time the word scuttlebutt became synonymous with the word gossip.

Bongo. If I remember right, and I may not. The Tiki Leilani mugs made for I believe their rum promotion are marked (U.S.A.) and I think were made by McCoy Pottery. OOH made the same mug as you found marked for the Hawaiian Inn in Daytona FL. as well. I'm not sure who made the unmarked versions.

Wow, I can't believe what good luck I've had in the last few days I've been back in the Detroit area. Today I found a nice United Airlines Tiki for only $15. Only catch was that I had to drive over an hour to get it, just outside of Lansing. I gave the guy a twenty dollar bill and told him to keep the change. Just need to touch up a few chips on the base. He stands 2' 8" tall. Between this and the Orchids of Hawaii masks and shields, I'd say this vacation is one of the best I've ever had for tiki finds. And in Michigan!?

This was hidden in one of those 4 inch long laundry list classified ads after a toaster oven. They were left to the guy by his brother years ago and sitting in the garage for 25 years. I almost fudged the deal by going into too much about Witco but shut up when his ears began to slowly perk up and got them for $25 each. Now if only I could find the bar that they were connected to.

I wish I could show more exciting stuff, but this was a month's worth of hard work and sweat.

A) bamboo shelf

D) Harveys Lake Tahoe (common for most of you, but pretty rare in these parts)

F) Teal tiki, I think Target used to carry these

On a side note, just got back from a weekend road trip to the Mai-Kai, and I have to report that the Barrel of Rum was great, the Snakebite was outstanding, and the Mai Tai in the wreck bar was better than I remembered. The food was good, I always get the Pad Tai. I picked up a couple of current mugs, I will not bore you with those pics, but one was a Sam's Seafood blue colored one, which I never saw before.

These two actually were sold together, though probably either in wood OR plaster pairings, by Paul Marshall Products and others:

...and a vintage Val Surf ad from the BOT, probably making them the first Tikis used on T-shirts ever:

The "Surf God(ess)" was made in larger versions, and found in Tiki temples like The Polynesia, and Trader Vic's, as sand ash trays.

I would never paint original vintage Tikis. Maybe touch them up, but leave them in the state they came in.

I picked up this great lamp at a vintage crafts market today.. Tiki lamps are really rare here - well, I've never seen a tiki styled lamp ever in Australia! I couldn't find any markings on it, anyone know what it is?


The lamp shade is really cool, not really sure if it matches the base but that's not always a bad thing - I quite like it... will either keep it as is or put the shade on something else if I find a better matching style one..

Wow, BigBro! I bought these two because I thought they were cool, not realizing what they were. I paid $5.00 for the Surf God & $10.00 for the War God. I was only entertaining the thought of painting the War God because I didn't know what it was. I thought because it was painted gold that it must have been a homemade item. Do you think that is the original finish? It's actually like a gold over brown. As always, thanks for your input & continuing to further my Tiki education.

Liana - I think your lamp is probably made by Marble Arts (does it have a felt base?) and the shade is almost certainly a later addition. The design is of course Maori, with the waka, and the couple would be characters from a Maori legend. They often came with a card or sticker explaining the design but very few retain their original labels. It is one of the most common designs you see here in NZ but rare overseas because of the size and weight. They are very much in fashion here and still fetch good prices even though they come up frequently.

I had one but dropped him and his nose chipped/cracked off. Never knew that moai was so fragile!
