Yeah.....guess mine isn't a T-Vic bowl.. Glaze looks to be similar, dunno if the brightness is different or not. Took a pic of mine with my cellphone and is probably underexposed.

Can't really tell, but is the rim pink on yours? Mine is and is the reason for the "humorous" nickname my wife gave it....viewing from the top, it does kinda look like it.

Bottom marking:

I was wondering about the glaze inside on yours. I haven't tried using mine as a communual drinking bowl (yet) partially because it has a flat white glaze inside. I'd feel better if it was gloss inside. Is yours a flat glaze inside also, or is it gloss??

Gotta remember, there seem to be a LOT of home-kit type things available with a tiki-theme, I've seen and have, several mugs with what looks like a "home made" quality to them - and usually the makers last name and the date on the bottom, that wonderful "Vagina Bowl" looks like one of those.

I purchased some carved panels that were removed from Adventure Land in 1991 during a remodel. The seller said he bought them from a former employee of Disney Land. These panels were allegedly the original panels located between the Jungle Cruise and Enchanted Tiki Room. The wood appears to be Teak and very old patina. I plan on using these panels in my Tiki Nui Lounge.

TikiVato, that is a serious find -- they're beautiful!

Here's our contribution to the shell bowl. Strange lettering or signature on the bottom -- it's initials, but it could be one of like three different combinations depending on which direction you look at it from (CB, CM, W...?). It does seem plausible that these were kits way back when...

Since Hang10tiki's images of his TV shell and my images of my Saxon 78 shell were so similar, I thought it'd be fun to play "Dr. Max Bergman" (CSI investigator from the new Hawaii 50 series) and do a bit of comparison between them....

First the bottom images side by side. I've outlined the similaries:

There are quite a few creases in both that are similar.

...and the tops:

The opening of the TV bowl in noticably larger than the saxon...obviously carved out larger after casting, but the dimples inside are also similar.

'Therefore, I've concluded that the victim was murdered by a violent blow to the cranium with a Trader Vic or similary cast conch shell bowl.".......wait, let me get out of character.

Ahem...... the bowls share similar molds.

I scored on twelve panels ranging 6 to 7 ' in length x9" wide. Sorry for the picture quality but I took them at night. I will try to take some when we have some sun. I plan on wiping the dust and dirt off and then using some teak oil to bring them back to life. No sanding nor stains will be used.

TikiVato - that's a lifetime achievement score! I am excited to see how they clean up...not that they need cleaning up.

Mike and Marie - I'm no expert but the quality of the glaze and the professional glyph-like nature of the signature leads me to think your bowl was made by a professional.

I picked up another fold-a-note set at the expo this past weekend. I used to have pen-pals in Hawaii when I was a kid in the 1970s and it was always quite exciting to receive a letter written on one of these! I always keep a few intact from each set, but I do actually use them for their original purpose & write some letters! Anyone else remember these?

As a kid who grew up in Hawaii I remember that these were sold to raise money the same way band candy is now. I use to go door to door trying to sell boxes and was happy that I sold 10. I think the prize for most sold was a gift certificate, they had a round gold sticker to seal them, it's nice to see them again.

I was on a flea market hiatus for awhile, but here's some pieces I've stumbled across in the last month.

Actually, my grandparents brought back these silver demitasse spoons back from New Zealand either in the 40's or the 60's, nobody is really sure. My aunt was using them at a family function and I was like, "where the F did these come from and can I have them?" Now they're mine :)

I can't recall ever seeing one of these, but it's a metal wall hanger that was made in Japan. It measures about a foot across.

Along with a pair of Steve Crane S&P's from the Luau, I also scored these Trader Vic's S&P's. I'm really surprised at the lack of detail.

And, a miniature WITCO world map.

It's not in perfect condition, but I'm certainly stoked to have it.

That metal plate is cool. I have a bakelite bowl with that same pattern or extremely close to it.

It's a 3'2" square piece, marked thc hawaiian textiles 18308. I assume that it was fabric some one bought and stretched themselves. Any info would be appreciated.

Last treasure was this guy, printed in the 60's. Really looking forward to adding a little flavor to the next tiki shindig I attend. Cheers!

Tiki sure gets around don't it? I'm always surprised when I see mugs from our local tiki joints for sale on Ebay from places like the deep south.

Not a half bad idea on the scan there. Some really good looking recipes too. I think I'm gonna be especially welcome at the next Tiki Kon volunteer party. grin

Oh, I've been looking for those forever. (If any one has an extra pair of them, I've got some superb trade goods. )

The lack of detail is due to the fact that they are from the Waikiki / International Market place Trader Vic's. Like the crude mugs at that location, they are by Polynesian Pottery and date to 1968-72...

The peice I don't know anything about is the cloth. It Looks like printed faux batik. Says made in Yogya Indonesia.
